    Abstract: The Special Collections and Archives department of the Leon S. McGoogan Health Sciences Library at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha holds a collection of rare and important medical books, journals, and manuscripts; equipment, instruments, and other objects related to the health sciences; the official records and archives of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and private manuscript collections with an emphasis in the health sciences, especially as they relate to Nebraska. The collection also holds photographs, works of art, and other ephemera.
    Holdings: The Special Collections contains medical manuscripts, some dating to the 1490s; medical incunabula; printed books from 16th through 20th centuries, including concentrations in general anatomy, obstetrics and gynecology, and orthopedics. We have works by Newton, Jenner, Darwin, Albertus Magnus, Vesalius, Rosslin, Hunter, etc.; the Moon Collection of obstetrical works; H. Winnett Orr rare book collection, especially orthopedics. The History of Medicine collection includes equipment, instruments, and objects representing the History and development of the health sciences, especially in Nebraska. Of note is a Collection of over 100 moulages (wax anatomical models) which were made by a medical artist on our campus in the 1930s, based on actual cases from the University of Nebraska Hospital. The University of Nebraska Medical Center archives include university records, personal papers, year books, college bulletins, annual reports, commencement programs, masters thesis and doctoral dissertations, nursing research papers, and photographs (campus/institutional related, Nebraska doctors, Nebraska hospitals, etc.), monographs, journals and ephemera. Holdings also include a collection of oral history interviews conducted in 1979-1980 for the centennial of the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1981.

    Abstract: Special Collections includes materials in all formats on the history of the health sciences and ancillary disciplines, the East Asian Collection of health-related materials in Asian languages, and the University Archives, which collects administrative records and materials on the history and development of the UCSF campus (an all health sciences campus).     Holdings: Special Collections encompasses a rare book collection (47,000 volumes) that includes incunabula (55 titles); early printed works (16th to 19th centuries); and modern secondary works; manuscripts (primarily modern) and papers of individuals; historical records of UCSF hospitals; administrative records of regional health institutions; photographs; slides; motion picture films and videotapes; oral histories; pamphlets; and artifacts. Specific subject emphases include anatomy and physiology; dentistry; pharmacy; nursing; obstetrics and gynecology; forensic medicine and toxicology; high altitude physiology; cholera and communicable diseases; occupational medicine; homeopathy; alternative medicine; California; Sir William Osler and his circle (Cushing, Garrison, etc.); tuberculosis; women in medicine; anesthesiology; smallpox in Mexico; managed care; antivivisection; AIDS; biotechnology; tobacco control. The East Asian collection numbers some 14,000 volumes, 400 manuscripts, and 400 prints, dating from 16th to the 20th century.

    Abstract: The Archives and Special Collections of Monmouth Medical Center document the history of healthcare at the Jersey Shore since 1890. The Archives is the repository for official records of the medical center, the school of nursing and alumni association. Monmouth Medical Center is part of Barnabas Health, and an affiliate of the Drexel University College of Medicine.     Holdings: The Archives and Special Collections has 250 linear feet of official records of Monmouth Memorial Hospital (1887-1958), Monmouth Medical Center (1958--) and the Training School for Nurses (1890 - 1970). Materials include yearbooks, annual reports, newspaper articles, photographs, maps, audio-visual, books, promotional materials, ephemera, and bound collections of papers.

    Abstract: The Saint Joseph Hospital Historic Archives was established in 1978 to acquire, preserve and make available the historical records that document the ongoing history of Saint Joseph Hospital, its staff, support personnel, patients and families, its founding in 1873 until now.
    Holdings: The Archives maintain a wide variety of collections comprised of letters, publications, photographs, artifacts, oral histories and other records. The physical collection consists of all kinds of materials covering the history of Saint Joseph Hospital, such as books, maps, blueprints, photographs, newsletters, nursing school yearbooks, correspondences, and even old-fashioned nurses' caps &uniforms, and other sundry items. The Archives received special funding from the family of Roger and Chris Goodwin for the purpose of creating a digital collection. Roger Goodwin was a former president of the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. Work is currently being done to make the hospital history available on a website that will be searchable online.

    Abstract: The Center was established by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the American College of Healthcare Executives, and is coordinated by the AHA Resource Center. The mission of the Center is to chronicle the history of hospitals and healthcare administration, especially in the United States. The historical collection is available for direct use by visitors and scholars with assistance from Resource Center staff. An appointment is required. Access and/or retrieval fees may apply. Selected materials are stored off-site and must be requested at least 24 hours in advance for on-site use. All historical materials must be approved for photocopying. Selected titles are replicated in the general collection and are available for loan through the AHA Resource Center's fee-based document delivery service.
    Holdings: The historical collection consists of over 800 books and journal titles collected by the AHA and the College. Particular strengths of this collection include hospital histories from the 17th through 19th centuries and hospital administration texts from the early 20th century. The oldest book in the collection dates back to 1676. Personal and institutional papers and memorabilia have been arranged in archival collections and described in written inventories that can aid researchers who are not on-site. The photographic collection consists of photographs of special significance to the healthcare field. A particular strength of this collection is a variety of AHA historical photographs. The Hospital Administration Oral History Collection features 90 transcribed interviews with prominent figures in the hospital and healthcare administration field who have shaped or participated in the events of the past. The postcard collection is comprised of over 1,000 postcards depicting primarily U.S. hospitals and medical centers.
