The exhibits focus on the history of the practice of medicine through office recreations, polio (including an iron lung), nursing education, and x-ray technology. A small library supports these exhibit topics. The collections are available for onsite research but do not circulate. Some library or archival materials may be scanned for research use. Holdings: The library consists of about 250 titles mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries. We maintain a complete run of the Bulletin of the Mahoning County Medical Society (1931- present). The Archival collection consists of papers of local practitioners and some papers of the Youngstown Hospital. The founder of the museum, Dr. John C. Melnick, discovered Melnick Needles Syndrome and some of research and publications are in the Archives. There is also a collection of 75 glass plate photographs of Base Hospital 31, which was funded and staffed by Youngstown during World War I.
