      Abstract: The Eskind Biomedical Library Special Collections consists of the History of Medicine Collection (located in the History of Medicine Room on the third floor of the library) and the VUMC Archives at EBL. The History of Medicine Room is open to the public, but please contact us first before visiting to ensure the avilablity of resources. This is especially true for those researchers planning to work with manuscript or archival material. Many requests may not require a visit and can be answered remotely. We are open Monday - Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (Central).
      Holdings: Monographs: 14,000 volumes. Emphasis on 18th and 19th century. Serials: none. Manuscript collections: 93, including the papers of Joseph Goldberger, Ernest Goodpasture, and William J. Darby and the archives of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences; Vanderbilt University Medical Center Archives; photographic archive of 14,000 images relating to the history of Vanderbilt Medical Center and the history of medicine in Nashville and Tennessee; collection of artifacts including Civil War medical instrumetns; E. Neige Todhunter Culinary Collection.

      Abstract: The Meharry Medical College Archives and Special Collections consists of the history of the college's past presidents, alumni and faculty from its inception in 1876 to the present. The Archives is open to the public, but please contact us by phone or e-mail for an appointment prior to your visit to enable staff to provide you with the best available service. Our office hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

      Abstract: The UTHSC Health Sciences Historical Collections acquires, catalogs, preserves, and makes available for research materials documenting the history of UTHSC and its predecessor institutions, as well as materials of historical significance to the health sciences and their practitioners, especially in Memphis, Tennessee and the Mid-South region. Collections include rare and antiquarian books, manuscripts, artifacts, photographs, oral histories, and biographical information on Tennessee physicians. The Health Sciences Historical Collections are available by appointment only, Monday-Friday, generally between 9:00 am — 4:00 pm. Reference requests can be made via phone or email to the archivist at jwelch30@uthsc.edu. Photocopying and scanning are allowed on a case by case basis.
