It collects primary historical research material from the western Missouri region. Materials include personal papers; business record; records of social, cultural, civic, educational, and political organizations; and an extensive collection of architectural plans. The holdings are open to the public, photocopying is available, and microfilm collections are accessible through interlibrary loan. In addition, all materials can be used at counterpart offices on the campuses of the University system. WHMC-KC is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and evenings by appointment. Holdings: Holdings with significance to the history of medicine fall into three categories: institutions, individuals, and related organizations. Institutional records include those of the Jackson County (MO) Medical Society (1892-1938); the University Medical College (1892-1937); the KC Medical Library Club (1911-1920); the Kansas City Academy of Medicine (1890-1924); the College of Physicians and Surgeons (1871-1905); and the Neurological Hospital Association of Kansas City (c.1936-c.1973). Still University/KCOM the Museum was founded in 1978, other family members, D.O.s and Museum supporters have donated many additional artifacts that reflect the ongoing history of the osteopathic profession. The research collections of the International Center for Osteopathic History also include many former holdings of the KCOM Library's special collections, for which the museum assumed responsibility in 1997. Researchers may work on-site in the reading room or write to the Museum with specific reference queries. (Due to limited staff, the Museum is unable to undertake extensive research projects on behalf of researchers). Researchers planning to use the reading room must call ahead of time for an appointment. SERVICES: The Museum also offers a variety of image reproduction services, including photocopies, photographic reproductions, and scanned images. Begun in 1912 with the acquisition of Julius Pagel's personal library from Berlin, the collections are among the oldest in the U.S. There is a strong subject coverage in European medicine since the late 15th century and all periods of American medicine. The Section is open 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. SERVICES: include reference and consulting, and (with varying restrictions) digitization and photocopying. The Archives houses materials primarily relating to the history of Washington University School of Medicine and its affiliated institutions. These materials include records of the School of Medicine Administration, the 19th century forerunners of the School, the Barnes Hospital, the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, and St. Louis Children's Hospital. Mumpower (1802-1969), Methodist medical missionary to the Belgian Congo in the 1910s and 1920s; R.P.C. Wilson II (1876-1953), specialist in mental health research and treatments for epileptics in the Missouri state health system; Lee D. Cady (1896-1987), physician who advocated legislation for premarital and prenatal medical examinations; Howard Rusk (1901-1989), pioneer in physical medicine and rehabilitation; Katherine Bain (1897-1999), pediatrician with the U.S. Children's Bureau and U.S. delegate to UNICEF; John W. Connaway (1859-1947), recognized for researching livestock diseases, including brucellosis and Texas fever; Thomas D. Luckey (1919- ), biochemist whose research fields included animal nutrition and metabolism; records of the Missouri Nurses Association (1930s-1990s); the Missouri League for Nursing (1920s-1990s); the University of Missouri, Department of Anatomy (1908-1950); and the John H.
