    Abstract: The archives at Roosevelt Institute contain material that illustrates the history of the organization as a major center for the treatment of polio. The most significant part of the collection is the approximately 15,000 negatives, slides, and photographs of patient care and activities at the Institute dating from the late 1920s to the early 1970s. Most of the images are details of the many orthotic devices and assistive devices prescribed to help the patients with their daily activities. The collection also includes 30-40 hours of film showing the use of these devices in practice. Franklin Delano Roosevelt founded the Institute in 1927. The Institute is now operated by the state of Georgia as a comprehensive rehabilitation center. SERVICES: Photocopying, photo and video reproduction and research coordination.
    Holdings: The collection consists of 60 linear feet of miscellaneous paper records from the 70-year history of Roosevelt Institute including some of the papers of Dr. Robert Bennett and Dr. C. E. Irwin, some of the business office records, and daily census reports, plus 7,000 negatives (1927-1970), 3,000 photographic prints (1927-1970), patient scrapbooks, annual reports, newsletters, and memorabilia.

    Abstract: The Historical Collections and Archives (HCA) of the Robert B. Greenblatt, M.D. Library is committed to acquiring, organizing, preserving, and making available historical collections related to the Health Sciences Campus of the Augusta University and its legacy institution, the Medical College of Georgia, and the history of the health sciences. The HCA is dedicated to delivering quality service in support of historical and institutional research to Augusta University affiliates, health science professionals, and the community.
    Holdings: Rare Book Library contains approximately 5,000 rare or unique books on a variety of health science subjects. The majority of the books are organized according to NLM classification and includes the Landmark Collection and the Faculty Author Collection. The Manuscripts Collection includes the papers of Raymond Ahlquist, Hervey M. Cleckley, Robert B. Greenblatt, Curtis Hames, Titus Huisman, G. Lombard Kelly, Claude Lee Pennington, Virgil P. Sydenstricker, and Alice Stewart. The Health Sciences Campus archives include official records, images, correspondences, and other materials relating to the history of the campus from the founding of the Medical College of Georgia in 1828 to the present. Medical artifacts include the Hamilton Manometer, surgical kits, a pacemaker collection, bronchoscopic instruments, and more.

    Abstract: The David J. Sencer CDC Museum is an educational facility designed to teach about CDC, public health, and the benefits of prevention. The museum, originally called the Global Health Odyssey (GHO), was established in 1996 in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)′s 50th anniversary.
    Holdings: The museum holds 2,093 objects, 703 photographs, 1,923 individual archive holdings, 200+ historic films and multimedia. The strengths of collection includes; Venereal Diseases, AIDS/HIV, Smallpox, Immunization, Smoking, Water borne and Vector borne diseases, Laboratory equipment, Malaria and the origins of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

    Abstract: Georgia Historical Society (GHS) is the premier independent statewide institution responsible for collecting, examining, and teaching Georgia history. GHS houses the oldest and most distinguished collection of materials related exclusively to Georgia history in the nation. The collection covers many subjects in medical history in the state of Georgia. Founded in 1839, the Georgia Historical Society is the oldest continuously operated historical society in the South. As an educational and research institution, GHS teaches Georgia history through a variety of educational programs, scholarly publications, and research services. It publishes the award-winning Georgia Historical Quarterly (Georgia's journal of record since 1917), maintains a library and archives, manages the Historical Marker Program for the State of Georgia, produces the daily television and radio program Today in Georgia History (in partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting), and organizes the annual K-12 education program Georgia History Festival. Headquartered in Savannah with an office in Atlanta, GHS has over 6,000 members and nearly 200 affiliates in 80 counties.
    Holdings: Within the library and archives is preserved an unparalleled collection of Georgia history, including more than 4 million manuscripts, 100,000 photographs, 30,000 architectural drawings, 15,000 rare and non-rare books, and thousands of maps, portraits, and artifacts. The Georgia Historical Society's vast collection includes such treasures as an original draft of the U.S. Constitution, one of only a handful in existence; a compass and snuff box belonging to Georgia founder James Oglethorpe; records related to the Cherokee Removal and Trail of Tears of 1836; and the correspondence of national figures such as U.S. presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, Confederate General Robert E. Lee, and Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low. The manuscript collection includes family papers, military records of every Georgia war, the papers of Georgia's major political leaders, colonial account books, diaries, plantation records, papers of social and cultural organizations, and business records ranging from the 18th through the 20th century. The periodical collection dates from the 18th and 19th centuries, and the visual material collection is made up of an impressive collection of photographs and other images including portraits of many of Georgia's most prominent leaders.
