    Abstract: Touro Infirmary Archives houses the history of the hospital from 1852 to the present. Holdings include photographs, minute books, admission books (1855-1891), Touro Infirmary School of Nursing, Touro Auxiliary. There is a lot of New Orleans Jewish history as the hospital was founded and funded by Jews.     Abstract: Archives and Special Collections records, rare books and manuscripts reflecting the history and mission of Mount Holyoke College including its founding, operation, and curriculum. Mount Holyoke was founded in 1837 and is the first continuous institution of higher education for women. A pioneering school that emphasized the sciences for women since inception, the College's records document the emergence of science and medical studies for women as well as the history of women in higher education, women in science, early missionary history, New England and Massachusetts education and religious history. Also heavily documented are Mount Holyoke's alumnae. Most notable are papers documenting the life and work of physician and anesthesiology Virginia Apgar (1880-1975), noted for developing the Apgar score for newborns. Other medical fields represented in alumnae files include nutrition, medicine, biomedical research, medical missionaries, psychiatry, physiology and midwifery. The collection is non-circulating and non-browsable.     Holdings: The Archives is comprised of over 9,000 linear feet of archival records and manuscript material. Foremost are official college records, including, but not limited to, the records of administrative offices; academic departments; faculty, administrative and student committees; faculty and student clubs; college and student publications; photographs and slides; memorabilia and other ephemeral. Manuscript materials actively collected by Special Collections include the personal papers and other non-print or ephemeral materials of selected alumnae and faculty, the records and other non-print or ephemeral materials of other institutions and organizations related to the history of, or disciplines taught by, the College. The rare book collection totals 11,000 volumes, the bulk of which were published in the 16th-19th Centuries. The collection's strengths include renaissance science, medieval Italian literature and history, Americana, Fine Press Editions and artist's books.

    Abstract: The New Jersey Historical Society was founded in 1845. The library collections include more than 65,000 printed books and pamphlets; 2,000 maps; newspapers, periodicals, broadsides; more than one million manuscript items. Materials related to the history of medicine are found in both the printed and manuscript collections. The Historical Society's Museum Department contains artifacts relating to the practice of medicine and dentistry.     Holdings: The Guide to Health Care and Social Welfare Manuscript Collections at the New Jersey Historical Society (The Library. Newark: New Jersey Historical Society, June 1998) includes detailed descriptions of the medical history collections and includes an appendix with finding aids and container lists. The extensive holdings include: account books of 19th century doctors; the casebook of Marietta Woodruff, 19th century female physician; daybooks, including pharmaceutical and vaccination experiments; various research papers by physicians; and diverse papers on medicine, nurses and nursing, women, drugs, patent medicine, social services agencies and organizations; prescriptions from physicians in all areas of the State; personal journals from 1768 to 1930, but mostly early-mid 19th century; records of births and deaths with coroner's inquest records; lecture notes; speeches; diaries; diplomas; scrapbooks; and materials from troop physicians active in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The papers of the Medical Society of New Jersey (1766-1888) and the archives of the Academy of Medicine in New Jersey (1775-1968) are an important part of the collection.     Abstract: Archives and Special Collections preserves the history of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University and systematically identifies, collects, preserves, and makes available materials pertaining to women in medicine, medical education, and homeopathy. Archives and Special Collections on Women in Medicine and Homeopathy holds the most comprehensive collection of materials in North America on women physicians. SERVICES: Reference requests answered via mail, phone, fax, or email. Photocopy and photographic reproduction are available. Limited OCLC participation. RESEARCH GRANT: One fellowship of $4,000 for no less than 4 to 6 weeks of research will be made annually to an applicant for research. Preference will be given to projects that focus on materials in Archives and Special Collections. Proposals must delineate the use that will be made of the specific collections. The application deadline is February 1 each year. The recipient will be notified and the award announced in March.     Holdings: The Archives is the official repository of Drexel University College of Medicine, and also maintains the records of (Woman's) Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University.     Abstract: Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) is a unit in Washington State University's Holland and Terrell Library that is primarily responsible for acquiring, administering, and preserving millions of non-circulating items, many of which are rare and unique. Collections consist of records and documents of historical value, including manuscripts, photographs, audio and video tapes, films, printed and published materials (books, maps, broadsides, etc.). We provide remote photocopying and scanning service to patrons.
    Holdings: MASC hold roughly 60,000 rare books, 20,000 linear feet of archives and manuscripts, 1,000 maps and 750,000 historical photographs. The Smithcors Collection of Veterinary History was formed over a period of 35 years by J.F. Smithcors, DVM, PhD, who developed the first course in veterinary history (1955) to be taught in America. The collection is distinguished not only by its scope (more than 1,300 titles), but also its deep holdings of multiple editions of individual authors, for example 19 editions of works by Henry Bracken 1697-1764 and 18 books by William Gibson 1680-1750. One of the unusual and interesting holdings in the Smithcors collection is its materials on vivisection.
