    Abstract: The Ruth Lilly Medical Library’s History of Medicine Collection is committed to supporting the research, learning, and educational success of Indiana University students, faculty, and community members by collecting, preserving, interpreting, and providing access to unique materials documenting the history of medicine; medical education, training, research, and practice; and health and disease treatment and prevention in the state of Indiana and beyond within the global context of the Western medical tradition.
    Holdings: The History of Medicine Collection includes, but is not limited to, the records and papers of Indiana University School of Medicine faculty and alumni, researchers, professional organizations, advocates, and practitioners in the medical and health care professions; a significant number of medical instruments and other artifacts; and rare and early print books, periodicals, and other publications.

    Abstract: Clendening Library collects primary and secondary material pertinent to the history and philosophy of medicine, including the subject area of biomedical ethics. The library's collection includes books, journals, medical instruments and artifacts, prints, photographs, original art, manuscripts and videotapes. Format emphasis is on printed works; the collection contains approximately 26,000 volumes; the library receives 40 current journals. The University of Kansas Medical Center Archives is an associated collection (Nancy Hulston, Archivist, (913) 588 7243). SERVICES: Reference, photocopy, photography, tours, lectures, exhibits, consulting. Interlibrary loans (rare/antiquarian/fragile items excepted) may be arranged through the Interlibrary Loan Section of the University of Kansas Medical Center's Dykes Library, fax (913) 588 7304, telephone (913) 588 5073.
    Holdings: Most of the acquisitions are in OCLC and the Library's online catalog. Approximate interim figures for holdings: Incunabula: 20 titles; 16th century: 100 titles; 17th century: 200 titles; 18th century: 400 titles; 19th century: 1,400 titles. Uncataloged museum artifacts: 1,000 items; portrait file: 1,000 photographs/engravings; caricatures: 200 items; manuscripts: 150 linear feet; original art: 100 items. Special collections include: Shaw Collection (plastic surgery), Thor Jager Collection (pathology, anatomy, cardiology, Rudolph Virchow manuscripts), Haden Collection (microscopy, hematology), Skinner Collection (radiology, electricity, radium) and Logan Clendening History of Anesthesia Collection. We are currently processing the gift of the Leonard F. Peltier Orthopedic Collection.

    Abstract: Prof. Syed Zillur Rahman established his personal library-cum-museum in the early 1960s. After founding of 'Ibn Sina Academy of Medieval Medicine & Sciences' in 2000 AD, the personal collection became a part of the Academy. The Academy is a non-political, non-governmental and non-profit organization registered under Indian Trust Act, 1882. It is an accredited organization by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India which also gave status of 'Centre of Excellence' The library of the Academy at present houses one of the most precious and valuable collection of over 500 medical manuscripts, 20,000 printed books in many languages like Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Sanskrit, Hindi and English, 15,000 periodicals, hundreds of special magazines, medical conference souvenirs and many specimens of oriental calligraphy on medical sciences and the practice of medicine. Books on the following sections in the Library are worthy to be mentioned: History of Medieval Medicine and Sciences, Unani, Ayurveda & Tibetan Medicine, Greaco-Arab (Unani) Materia Medica and Modern Pharmacology. Any person wishing to consult the historical collection can contact through email (ibnsinaacademy@gmail.com). Information if feasible will either be provided by e-mail or through surface mail. Visitors may visit the library during office hours. The library provides free and open access to all scholars. SERVICES: Photocopying and reference services are available. Opening hours are from Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

    Abstract: The Institute of Humanities in Medicine (IHM) was founded in 1989 as the University Institute for the History of Medicine and Public Health (IUHMSP) and is part of Lausanne University Hospital. Its library and special collection followed right after and opened their doors to the public in 1990. Today, with total holdings of almost 60’000 catalogued titles and medical heritage objects, the library is the reference centre for research and studies in its subject area.

    Abstract: The Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives is the official archival repository of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, and the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Archival holdings include institutional records, personal paper collections of individuals associated with the institutions, photographs, fine arts and medical and scientific artifacts which date from the late nineteenth century to the present. Holdings are available for use whenever legal, regulatory, and ethical conditions permit. The Archives staff provides a range of free and fee based services for on site and remote users. Our reading room is open Monday through Friday by appointment only.
    Holdings: The Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives contains over 24,000 cubic feet of holdings, which includes over 50 institutional record collections, personal paper collections of nearly 500 individuals, biographical files on over 18,000 individuals, over 400,000 still images, over 1300 cans of film, and over 10,000 art and artifact objects.
