    Abstract: The Historic Library of Pennsylvania Hospital holds a unique collection of medical books, pamphlets, and journals, which served as a working library for the staff and students of the Hospital from 1762 to 1940. The Archives of the Hospital is comprised of many types of historic records and manuscripts, which chronicle the history of the institution since its founding in 1751. The collections represent a major research resource for the scholarly study of the first hospital in the nation, as well as documenting early theory and practice of American medicine and psychiatry. Other special collections include photographs, artifacts, fine art, and decorative art. SERVICES: The Historic Library and Archives are open to researchers, though appointments with the Archivist must be made in advance. Researchers use records on microfilm when possible. Photocopying of original material at discretion of Archivist. Photo reproductions possible.
    Holdings: Archives (1751-present): approximately 2,500 linear feet of records of the Hospital, the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital (formerly Pennsylvania Hospital for the Insane); records of affiliate institutions (the Philadelphia Lying-In Charity, the Maternity Hospital, and their nurse-training schools, the Philadelphia and Southern Dispensaries; the Preston Retreat; the Humane Society, and the Nurse Charity). Historic Library (1483-1930): 13,000 volumes, primarily European and American medical texts on materia medica, surgery, psychiatry, life sciences, natural history, botanicals, and anatomical atlases. Photographs: 22,000 images (albumen, magic lantern slides, silver gelatin, and color). Artifacts (1700-present): medical and scientific equipment and kits and personal belongings of staff members.     Abstract: Special Collections and University Archives in the Library of the Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago houses rare books and archives, including pre-fire Chicago imprints (prior to 1871) related to the history of the health sciences. The department also houses the records of the University Archives related to the health science colleges. Many of the historical materials focus on the development of the health sciences in Chicago and the Midwest. The Special Collections and University Archives is open to the public and provides reference, photocopying, and photographic reproduction services.
    Holdings: The strengths of Special Collections and University Archives are neurology, urology, dermatology, and the history of medicine, including collections of early anatomies, herbals, pharmacopeias, and formularies. There are over 23,000 volumes of pre-1930 monographs and pre-1900 journals and over 5,000 linear feet of archival collections, in addition to photographs, slides, and artifacts. We hold records from the pre-UIC health colleges, including the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago and the Chicago College of Pharmacy. Other archival collections include the Cook County School of Nursing records, the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association records, the Horizon Hospice records, and the Abraham Low/Recovery International collections.

    Abstract: Archives and Special Collections is the repository for the archival records of Columbia University's four health sciences schools: the College of Physicians and Surgeons (1767), the School of Nursing (1892), the College of Dental Medicine 1916, and the School of Public Health (1922). Archival records date from the 1780s to the 1980s and are largely from the schools of medicine and dentistry, though all four schools are represented. The department also holds records of Presbyterian Hospital (1866-1997), as well as records of hospitals that merged with it including Babies Hospital (est. 1887) and the Neurological Institute of NY (est 1909). Special Collections include books, periodicals, and pamphlets in the history of the health sciences from 1476 to the 20th century; personal papers of physicians, scientists, and administrators associated with the Columbia University Medical Center; records of the Maternity Center Association and the Visiting Nurse Service of NY; and prints, photographs, and some artifacts. SERVICES: Hours Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., by appointment. Reference by mail, phone, and email. Photocopying at discretion of department Head.

    Abstract: The Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives is the official archival repository of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, and the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Archival holdings include institutional records, personal paper collections of individuals associated with the institutions, photographs, fine arts and medical and scientific artifacts which date from the late nineteenth century to the present. Holdings are available for use whenever legal, regulatory, and ethical conditions permit. The Archives staff provides a range of free and fee based services for on site and remote users. Our reading room is open Monday through Friday by appointment only.
    Holdings: The Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives contains over 24,000 cubic feet of holdings, which includes over 50 institutional record collections, personal paper collections of nearly 500 individuals, biographical files on over 18,000 individuals, over 400,000 still images, over 1300 cans of film, and over 10,000 art and artifact objects.

    Abstract: The Museum of Health Care at Kingston is a safe haven for more than 30,000 artefacts, including medical, surgical, and laboratory instruments, commemorative objects, and patient care items. Individuals and institutions donated the artefacts in the various collections, which date from the late 18th century to the present.
